McKinley Irvin Opens Portland Office

PORTLAND — McKinley Irvin, one of the Pacific Northwest’s largest law firms focused exclusively on divorce and family law, has opened a downtown Portland office at 1500 SW 1st Ave., with 26-year veteran attorney Kathy Root as its partner-in-charge.
The office enables McKinley Irvin to better serve its Oregon clients with a downtown location. As the partner-in-charge, Root will oversee all operations while growing the firm’s presence in the Portland metro area. Root previously was a shareholder at Johnston, Root & Leibenguth, P.C.

She also is a leader in the legal community, including past service on the executive committee for the Oregon State Bar Family Law Section. She also testified before the Oregon Legislature regarding a proposed family law-related bill. Root also previously served as chair of the International Law Committee of the American Bar Association’s Family Law Section and as a vice president of Oregon Women Lawyers. She is now a member of the advisory board for the Oregon Women Lawyers Foundation.

Root is believed to be the first attorney to file and prosecute a case involving the Hague Convention on The Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction in an Oregon court.
