My approach with clients is to provide them with the best outcome we can achieve. I listen and learn what their goals are, so I can provide informed and concrete advice.

Jeffrey Matthews

Jeff Matthews is a partner at McKinley Irvin with more than three decades of experience practicing family law in Oregon. His interdisciplinary approach, professionalism, and leadership has distinguished him as one of the most respected divorce and family law attorneys in Portland. Jeff’s practice primarily focuses on cases involving complex financial matters, including valuation and protection of high net worth business interests and estates, as well as other complex property division matters.

Jeff has earned great respect within the legal community as a successful advocate by focusing first on cooperative communication with the opposing party and their counsel. He understands that this approach often produces faster and less costly results. However, when it is necessary, he is not afraid to take a case to court in pursuit of the best outcome possible. To date, he has represented clients in more than 100 trials and hearings throughout his career.

Jeff chose to focus on family law because he enjoys helping people. “I’m drawn to people and their life stories. I’m fulfilled by helping clients and their families, where every case is different and presents unique challenges to tackle.”

Jeff views his role as a family law attorney as twofold. First, he strives to guide his clients through a difficult time of transition, seeing them through into the next chapter of their lives. Second, he serves as a dedicated advocate for his clients, working hard to protect their best interests.

“My approach with clients is to provide them with the best outcome we can achieve in their particular situation,” says Jeff. “I listen and learn what their goals are, so I can provide informed and concrete advice on their situation that leads to a positive resolution.”

Jeff is a longtime Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the immediate past president of the AAML Oregon chapter. He is also active in his community, being involved in several non-profit organizations that help people in need. Jeff founded Oregon Lawyers Against Hunger in 1997, which has raised more than $1 million for Oregon Food Bank over the years.

Outside of the firm, Jeff enjoys spending time in the great outdoors with his two dogs. He also enjoys music, literature, barbecuing in the rain, running marathons, and cheering on the Ducks.
